"Simply the Best" Independent Bookstore Since 2004

The Bookstore: Our store found its home in a renovated movie theater constructed in the 1920s as the first non-segregated theater in Central Pennsylvania. Since then, the building has undergone a series of renovations eventually resulting in its present incarnation, the Midtown Scholar Bookstore. We are located across the street from Harrisburg's historic Broad Street Market and just a few blocks (about 1/4 mile) north of the Pennsylvania State Capitol. We are honored to have been named one of "America's Great Independent Bookstores" and voted "Simply the Best" Independent Bookstore in the region for over 10 consecutive years. Our bookstore-cafe extends over two buildings and includes over 200,000 used, new, and discounted books for all readers; in addition to an exceptional collection of rare books, lithographic and woodcut prints, "The Little Scholar" children's and young adult wing, The Yellow Wall art gallery, a main stage for author talks and acoustic music, as well as private meeting areas for our community.
The Famous Reading Cafe: The Midtown Scholar's "Famous Reading Cafe" is open the same hours as the bookstore. We are proud to offer organic, single-origin coffees and espresso drinks from the award-winning Counter Culture Coffee. Also on offer is a selection of over 30 loose-leaf organic teas from Rishi Tea
The Warehouse: Our two warehouses stock over two million academic and general interest books which are available on our website, Amazon.com, Abebooks.com, and a variety of other online book vendors. The warehouse staff are also in charge of all of our shipping, handling, and customer service inquiries, so we ask that you call their number (717-236-2665 ext 1.) with any questions related to your online order or return!
