Booking an Event at the Midtown Scholar

Thank you for your interest in planning an event with us! Below you will find a list of the events we typically
hold at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore, but we do welcome all event ideas!

Musical Performances:  

The Midtown Scholar is always looking to hear from bands and artists whose passion for music resonates with our love of art and literature. To begin the process for you or your band to perform on the Scholar's main stage, please submit an event request through our Partnership Planning system. Before submitting your request, we do ask that you read through the complete list of considerations for musical performers at the bottom of this page. Thank you!

Local Authors

The Midtown Scholar is pleased to partner with local authors to promote central Pennsylvania's literary culture. We ask that all authors, whether to arrange for book consignment or for an author signing/lecture event, submit their request through our Partnership Planning System

Book Club: 

Please feel free to submit event requests through our Partnership Planning System for book clubs, reading events, or literary discussions that you would like hosted in the Midtown Scholar! We are constantly on the lookout for groups who are passionate about bringing reading and scholarly discussion to the city of Harrisburg.

Children's Events

The Little Scholar is our dedicated space for all readers young at heart! With walls covered by hand-painted murals from the renowned children's book illustrator Jonathan Bean, the Little Scholar is the perfect spot for children's events of all kinds. To arrange a children's activity of your own, log onto our Partnership Planning System to get started.

Community Events:

If you are interested in proposing a community event at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore, please send a small description of the event to Lauren Kraybill at We do ask that you submit all community event requests at least two months prior to the event date, and all of our community events are free and open to the public.

Additional Information for Musical Performances:

Concerts are free to our customers, and that means that your payment will be via tips and merchandise sales. 

We love offering space to performers, but we do not have the budget to pay. (We will, of course, make you a free  cup of the best coffee around.)

All of our bookings now take place through an online booking system located at:

Musical Performance Booking form.  Please note that we book concerts only on Friday and Saturday nights.

Because we are primarily a bookstore/cafe, our atmosphere is unique and comes with its own set of realities:

1. Your performance will happen during operational hours, and that means the lights will be up in the store and customers are likely to be browsing while you play.

2. We have an excellent soundboard, but we do not have the capacity to run the sound during the show. 

Helping to plug in and during sound check is fine, but we do not have a sound staff person. Keep that in mind, and if you have 

multiple instrument changes, they'll all need to be plugged in at the beginning unless you are bringing sound support along with you. 

Due to the acoustics in the store we do NOT allow AMPS or full PERCUSSION Sets be used for the performance.  

3. Our schedule is becoming increasingly full, and if you're a good fit, we'll do our best to fit you in as soon as possible. 

The approval process may take up to 2 weeks for response.  Your request is important, but with the high volume it will 

be processed in the order in which it was submitted.
