“Book Mover, Van Driver, & Database Assistant”

This is a year-round position, not a seasonal/summer opening. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.

Full-Time or Part-Time Position: 28-43 hours/week

Schedule: 4 or 5 days/week, Monday through Friday, including an occasional Saturday.

This is a management-track position as an Inventory Assistant, with the specialized roles of Book Mover, Van Driver, and Database Assistant. Location: Midtown Harrisburg

RESPONSIBILITIES:

General retail tasks include greeting and assisting customers; handling customer inquiries; book stocking, sorting, and shelving; store merchandising; light maintenance and cleaning duties; point-of-sale cashier; moving book carts; box moving; and set-up/tear-down for special events.

Specialized duties of an Inventory Assistant include book moving, lifting and carrying heavy boxes, pushing and rolling carts, and loading boxes into a delivery van; driving between our store locations; used book pricing and listing; inventory receiving and shelving; order fulfillment and book packaging; email correspondence; phone calls with customers; handselling books; used book acquisition; CSV and TXT file transfers and cloud-based database entry; and general bookstore operations.

Opportunities for advancement will be based on interest and skills. Management training and professional development is available.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

●     College degree or equivalent work experience. Proficiency in MS Excel is beneficial.

●     Ability to climb, bend, crouch, stoop, and lift boxes up to 40 lbs.; ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; ability to sit for extended periods of time; ability to use hands and arms to operate a keyboard and telephone, manipulate small, large, and heavy objects, and engage in repetitive motion activities; and ability to adapt to the varying temperatures, bright or dim lighting, and dustiness of book and box storage areas.

●     Daily requirements include driving a commercial delivery van, pushing book carts, climbing stairs, and lifting and carrying heavy boxes. The workplace requires going up and down stairs and maneuvering narrow aisles and hallways, with the diverse sounds, smells, and distractions of open-plan work areas and public gathering places.
